Chipping Away no Estado de Vigilância | Membros do TAC: The most active front in the nullification movement right now is the battle against the surveillance state. Despite intense law enforcement opposition, we've won several more victories over the last few weeks. California got the ball rolling when Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law that bans police from using facial recognition and biometric scanners with body-worn cameras for the next three years. That win seems to have created some momentum against facial recognition at the state level. Within days of the California bill signing, Sen. Brad Hoylman (D-NYC) introduced a similar bill in the New York Senate. In Michigan, two bills pushing back against mass surveillance moved forward. The Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety passed a resolution that would put a state constitutional amendment on the ballot to elevate the privacy of a person's electronic communications and data to the same level as "persons, houses, papers and possessions." That same committee also approved a measure that would prohibit the warrantless use of stingray devices and the collection of electronic data stored by service providers in most situations.
